Cultures on Iron Hill
The Iron Hill geologic anomaly was the site of Native American Indian tool making from good sources of Jasper as long as 10,000 years ago. Europeans came along in the 1600's and developed Iron Ore mining and processing operations in the 1700's and 1800's. The area also served as a "Freedmans” colony, with successive school sites for the African American community, and there were reportedly moonshine operations from time to time on the Hill. At least one unexplained apparition has been reported on Iron Hill. Quite an interesting area. Mr. Johnson has spent more than 50 years on and around the Hill and can discuss these features. Talk would be at the PHAA Museum.
